Quick itineraries close to venue
Welcome to Rome! If you have a break in your schedule, Viale Manzoni offers immediate access to some of the city’s most profound historical sites—many of which are just a 10–15 minute walk away.
Ideal for a quick morning or evening walk (1 hour)
-
Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano: Just a short walk south from Viale Manzoni, this is the “Mother of all Churches” and the oldest of Rome’s four major papal basilicas. Don’t miss the 13th-century Cloister, a masterpiece of Cosmatesque art.
-
The Holy Stairs (Scala Santa): Located across from the Basilica, these are the steps said to have been climbed by Jesus in Jerusalem, brought to Rome by St. Helena.
-
Porta Asinaria: View one of the best-preserved gates of the 3rd-century Aurelian Walls.
For those who love art and quiet, atmospheric spaces (1.5 hour)
- Basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme: Built into the ruins of an imperial palace, this church houses relics of the True Cross. It features a stunning Baroque facade and a peaceful vegetable garden.
- The Neronian Aqueduct: As you walk back toward Viale Manzoni, look up to see the towering brick arches of the ancient aqueduct that once supplied the Domus Aurea.
- Palazzo Merulana: A beautiful Art Deco museum hosting a private collection of 20th-century Italian art, perfect for a sophisticated coffee break in their garden café.
If you want to see the icons without a long commute (2 hours)
- Domus Aurea & Colle Oppio Park: Walk west through the Esquilino district to reach the park overlooking the Colosseum. It’s the perfect spot for a photo op of the Flavian Amphitheatre.
- Basilica of San Clemente: Often called the “Lasagna Church,” this site allows you to travel back in time. You can visit the 12th-century church, then descend to a 4th-century church, and finally reach a 1st-century Roman street and Mithraic temple below.

Airports in Rome
Leonardo da Vinci/Fiumicino International Airport – Rome’s main airport is modern, large, rather efficient, and well connected to the centre of the city by public transportation.
Ciampino International Airport – Located to the southeast of the capital, this is the city’s low-cost airline airport. This small airport is closer to the city centre than Fiumicino but has no direct train connection.
